Helping Hands Mission Inc. deliver a number of programs that focus on providing emergency aid, material aid and an opportunity for social inclusion.
Each week, Helping Hands Mission Inc. works with a range of different agencies across Victoria, and particularly in the Hume and Moonee Valley regions, to distribute emergency aid to families and individuals who desperately need assistance. These people may have found themselves in extreme circumstances due to a number of factors, such as domestic violence, unexpected changes in employment, severe or sudden illnesses or natural disasters.
Working in partnership with local agencies allows us to distribute the essential items that people need to get by every day, such as non-perishable food items and toiletries. These are the items that we all need and often take for granted and our aim is to give families and individuals one less thing to have to think about during an already stressful time.
We’re proud to report that during 2015 we have purchased and distributed over 300 tonnes of food, helping to feed over 400 families each week. Fresh fruit and vegetables are an important part of the emergency aid that we provide.
In 2015, we also launched our Bridgewater based Rural Food Pantry. Working in conjunction with the Inglewood Lions Club, we now distribute food to a growing number of communities with the Loddon Shire, including Kerang, Dunolly, Boort, Charlton, Dingee, Arnold and Powlett.
Agencies we currently work with include:
- Moonee Valley Council – Family Services
- Essendon Citizen's Advice Bureau
- Wintringham Aged Care
- Caroline Chisolm
- Hope Street
- MacKillop Family Services
- Eastern Emergency Relief Network
If you are in need of emergency or material aid support, please contact one of the above agencies and ask that they refer you as a client to Helping Hands Mission Inc.

Since its inception, Helping Hands Mission Inc. has worked closely with a number of rural communities across Victoria to deliver aid when it is most needed. Our Mobile Op Shop and Community Pantry programs have been important stepping stones in helping us understand how we can best support the rural communities we work with and have helped to shape our Rural Bus Trips program.
This initiative allows us to provide rural communities (most often the ladies but men are very welcome too) with a lovely day out whilst delivering access to material aid and most importantly, the opportunity to leave problems behind for a little while and socialise with friends.
Helping Hands Mission Inc., with the support of Portland House Foundation, are able to provide transport, a lovely three course lunch, pamper bags and a visit to our three Op Shops. For more information about our Rural Bus Trips program, please Contact Us.
