Westfield Airport West Local Hero - Kelly

We’re delighted to be able to say that our beautiful Community Engagement Manager, Kelly, was successful in becoming the Westfield Airport West Local Hero for 2024!

Kelly, who we’re sure you know if you’ve ever visited our Airport West store, was lucky to be nominated as a finalist in the Westfield Local Heroes Program for all of the hard work she puts in to running our Assisted Volunteers Program.

Volunteers are absolutely critical to the success of Helping Hands and we are committed to ensuring that everyone has a chance to be involved. That’s why we run our Assisted Volunteers Program – an initiative that provides all members of the community with an opportunity to come along, lend a hand, enjoy a cuppa and make a valuable contribution. Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes and have different skills to share, and this program recognises that some may require a bit of assistance on their volunteering journey.

The success of this program is thanks to the kindness, creativity, and passion of Kelly, who gives so much time to ensure every one of her volunteers finds a role that provides them with purpose, joy and community connection.

The Westfield local heroes program has contributed $8.6M to more than 860 successful Local Hero organisations since it began 7 years ago, and now we’re lucky to be able to add our name to that list.

As the 2024 Westfield Local Hero, Kelly was a awarded a $20,00 grant for her Assisted Volunteers program – giving us the opportunity to fund the refit of our portable building at McIntosh Street, and turn it into a beautiful, welcoming and safe Assisted Volunteers Hub!

We’re so grateful for the efforts of our great big Helping Hands family - who not only voted for Kel, but helped us encourage the community to recognise what an amazing person she is!
